【摘要】:Thispracticeisapplicablewhensmallamountsof241Amarepresentinplutoniumsamples(seeTestMethodsC758andC759).Anexampleisthedeterminationof241Amina238Pusample.Thehighspecificactivityof238Pupresentsasafetyhazardthatprecludesitspresenceinacountingfacility.Therefore,itisnecessarytoremovethe238Pupriortothedeterminationof241Am.Whenaplutoniumsolutioncontainsfissionoractivationproducts,thispracticedoesnotseparateallradionuclidesthatinterfereinthedeterminationof241Am,suchastherareearths.1.1Thispracticedescribestheuseofanionexchangetechniquetoseparateplutoniumfromsolutionscontaininglowconcentrationsofamericiumpriortomeasurementofthe241Ambygammacounting.1.2Thispracticecoverstheremovalofplutonium,butnotalltheotherradioactiveisotopesthatmayinterfereinthedeterminationof241Am.1.3Thispracticecanbeusedwhen241Amistobedeterminedinsamplesinwhichtheplutoniumisintheformofmetal,oxide,orothersolidprovidedthatthesolidisappropriatelysampledanddissolved(SeeTestMethodsC758,C759,andC1168).Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
